About being a part of Anita’s Attic Creative Writing program

Possibly the best decision I have ever taken. For years I have struggled with disbelief, apathy, and denial. I was afraid, so very afraid to be what has been my calling for as long as I can remember. I was afraid of taking that first step, because of irrational fear of having no future failing this. Throughout years, writing has been my safety jacket, an excuse to tell myself that I could be average, because one fine day I would be writing a master piece. One fine day would never come because then I would lose my excuse. What would I have to live for if I failed to be a writer?

These were some of the questions I struggled with for past few years. The answer? Anita’s Attics tagline claims “You will find it here”. I am fortunate that I did find ‘it’ there. A distinct idea of what I wanted to do with my writing, and a good start. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.

For my entire time in the Attic, Anita’s own journey and the little nuggets of wisdom that she passed on has been immensely helpful. It’s strange that while there are so many courses for acting, direction, etc.. there was nothing like it for writing. The course itself has an open design, and depends on the individual to a great extent. I have no idea how Anita managed to give each of us personal attention and advise to get us till here. I feel liberated and unafraid now. Anita’s attic has not suddenly transformed me into a bestseller writer, but it has given me the courage to call myself ‘a writer’, to embrace what I claim is my fate. I would forever be thankful to Anita and her team for that.
